Another Chapter Ends

Today officially marks the end of my last semester in college. The first semester went by so slow, but the second semester flew by.

I’m excited for the new step in my life, to make the transition from being slightly irresponsible as a college student to growing up into an adult with a full-time job.

I’ll miss so many things about college: the afternoon nights, midnight trips for no reason, and most importantly the friendships I’ve made over the past four years that I will never forget.

I still remember my dad and little brother carrying my stuff up six flights of stairs because there were so many freshman all moving in at the same time.  I won’t miss the community bathrooms or the lack of privacy of dorms, but some of the greatest memories I have involve an amazing group of friends being ridiculous and having fun.

One of the best moments I had in college was being able to connect with classmates from high school that I wasn’t previously friends with. One of my best friends and I spent four years walking the same halls in high school and never spoke to one another.

We ended up having a class together sophomore year and instantly clicked.

She’s had a huge impact on me as a person and it’s crazy to think that in two weeks we’ll be miles and miles away from each other.

College was one of the best times I’ve ever had.

Thanks for the memories WVU.

True Blood Season 2 on DVD

I’m one of the unfortunate people who don’t have HBO. This means that I miss the awesomeness that is True Blood. I’m not a huge fan of watching movies/TV shows online, so I bought the first season on DVD and will be buying the second on May 25.

I’d much rather relax and watch marathons of TV while laying in bed instead of having to focus on the small screen of my desktop. I have to avoid all online conversation of True Blood, which I’ve done relative well so far. This is one show that I didn’t want spoiled, which is unusual for me (I ask how a movie ends while we’re still at the beginning if I know somebody has watched it before.)

I feel like this is going to be the perfect cure for relaxation after the crazy last few weeks of school.

Laptop or Desktop?

Right before the start of the semester my Netbook broke. I was fed up laptops so I decided to purchase a desktop. I have a perfectly working Dell laptop during this past summer, but my bedroom flooded and ruined it.

I was ridiculously mad that out of all the rooms in my house mine had to be it and of all the things that could have been destroyed it was of course my laptop. So I went shopping for a new one and decided on a Netbook. I liked how compact they were.

I was doing so well with it and then downloaded a bad music file the weekend I was due back for school. I was prompted with the lovely blue screen and my Netbook wouldn’t budge.

So I ended up trying an HP Slimline desktop which I absolutely love.  I have an iPod touch which replaced not having a laptop, but after a while I grew tired of staring at the small screen.

Fast-forward to last week when I finally took my Netbook to get fixed. I’m so excited that be using it again. I’ve forgotten how to change settings and things like that, so it’s basically like getting a new computer.

I don’t understand how someone could only use a laptop or only use a desktop.

My desktop allows me to concentrate more on my work while I’m doing it, but I have my laptop to use while I’m just lounging around.

Concert Review: Drake

I’m going to preface this by saying the Friday night Drake concert at the coliseum was my first rap concert. And probably my last for quite a while.

I got tickets for a two friends and my brother and me. My little brother who is 16 was so excited for his first concert, he had a countdown a special outfit, the works. He would be embarrassed if he knew I was writing this, but he was the equivalent of me at my first Britney Spears concert.

We went out to dinner at Olive Garden, minus the spilled food this time and then headed to the show.

We were escorted to the wrong seats and were rudely notified of it by the rightful occupants. So we got up and found the correct seats only to sit by the funniest/most pathetic thing I’ve ever seen.

My little brother was seated by this obnoxious girl who throw up hand signs during the entire show. Rotating from the peace sign, the middle finger, and a firing gun she used these signs pretty much every 30 seconds.  After almost hitting my brother in the face he moved to go sit with friends. That left my best friend beside the girl who ruined the show for everyone in our section.
After my best friend, the most non-confrontational person ever politely asked her to not put her hands in her face, the girl replied the oh so eloquent “say it to my face bitch.” Apparently she didn’t realize that my best friend actually did just say it to her face.

Book Review: Are You There, Vodka It’s Me Chelsea

While I was visiting my mom during spring break I found a book that she had received for Christmas pushed to the back of her bookshelf. I’m a big Chelsea Handler fan, I’ve read one of her other books My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands, so I was pretty excited to see Are You There Vodka, It’s Me Chelsea sitting unread.

I’m “borrowing” the book because my mother will probably never read it.

The book is laced with sarcasm and humor as Chelsea talks about her life experiences. From telling ridiculous lies as a child to fit in to her few days in jail for her DUI the book is filled with moments where you stop and think is this really happening?

Overall it’s a nice, light read that lets you get lost in the humor.

Check it out if you’re in need of something new to read. You can also catch her show Chelsea Lately on E!.

Movie Review: The Blind Side

I finally got around to watching The Blind Side. I had been told countless times that this was a movie I need to see so I broke down and watched it over the weekend.

The movie  focuses on the true story of Michael Oher an African-American teenager with a drug addicted mother and absent father. As a teen Oher was homeless until he was taken in by a well-to-do family who motivated him to succeed in the sport of football, as well as helping him in the classroom.

The movie is based on the book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis which tells Michael’s story.

Nike’s Controversial Tiger Ad

Tiger Woods reflects on mistakes in the new advertisement for Nike.I’ve watched the whole Tiger Woods scandal since the report of his wrecked SUV. Now through the fog of mistresses and other equally scandalous allegations he is returning to golf.

My stance on this whole issue is so what? There was more coverage on Tiger’s sex life than there has been on Charlie Sheen pulling a weapon on his wife.

Tiger’s return to the Master’s was capitalized with a solemn commercial from Nike. Nike is one of the only sponsors that has stayed with Woods since the scandal exploded on to tabloid headlines, so it’s only normal for them to back their superstar in his much talked about return.

I get what they were going for in the commercial, to paint Tiger as someone real as opposed to someone on an unattainable level.  What I don’t get is why they used his father as a voiceover for a broken looking Tiger.  Tiger’s father Earl Woods cheated on Tiger’s mother, so for Nike to use his voice as one of reason doesn’t add up.

College Housing has its Problems

As I’ve posted before and on my group’s housing blog I live at Copper Beech. They were built around a year ago and we are the first tenants in our building.

The walls get scuffed up ridiculously easy so it was no surprise to see marks on the wall. What I wasn’t prepared to see what were the wall is cracking right by my door.

Along with that my bedroom door is hard to open. I have to press my weight up against the door to get it to come open.

I put a work order in a week ago, but I’m wondering about my door. The inability to open it and safely get out of my bedroom has to be some kind of safety hazard.

Also in this mess that is my  decision to live here is the fact that the Internet that is provided by Copper Beech in my rent is complete shit.

Again as I have previously posted I went without Internet for just short of two weeks.
Since they’ve fixed it I’ve experienced Internet outages usually on Tuesday nights. I’ll also have my connection randomly drop out for a few hours. This usually happens when I need it the most.

I never had this problem when I lived at the Ridge or when I was living in a rented house.

Enough of my apartment banter. The countdown to graduation is on.

On DVD: New Moon

Ok, I’m going to start this post by saying that I’m completely biased.

I love the Twilight Saga, probably more than I should.

The second installment of the series New Moon was released at midnight at many retail stores. Stores like Wal-Mart, FYE, and Borders all held release parties with people lining up hours ahead of time.

Each store had various exclusive DVD’s which  offered different things. Wal-Mart had three versions of the DVD alone ranging from a basic edition, a fan edition, and a two pack which included the movie and a documentary on the town the books are based on, Forks, Washington.

Movie Review: Remember Me

So as a huge Twilight fan I went to see Robert Pattinson’s first film, Remember Me is his first since the phenomenon hit.

I both read and watched different segments where no one could really explain what the movie was about. I’m not really sure how that’s possible because once the movie was over I pieced together what it was about. I’m cautioning readers now from this point on out there will be huge spoilers.
